KOLKATA: Goods train and Kanchenjunga Express collide in Bengal, 15 people killed, 60 injured

Kolkata: At least 15 people were killed and around 60 others injured when a freight train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express near Rangapani station in West Bengal on Monday, police said. Three coaches of the express train derailed after the engine of the freight train hit it from behind, railway officials said. Rescue operations are underway at the spot, around 30 km from New Jalpaiguri station in north Bengal, and the injured are being admitted to nearby hospitals. “At least 15 people have died and 60 injured in the accident so far,” a senior police official told PTI. Earlier, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a post on X: “Unfortunate accident in NFR zone. Rescue operations underway on war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF working together. The injured are being rushed to hospital. Senior officials have reached the spot.” Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Katihar division of North Frontier Railway said that 13174 Kanchenjunga Express was going from Agartala to Sealdah and the accident occurred around 9 am.
