Kolkata news: CRPF jawan arrested for molesting 2 women in Chitpur area
Kolkata: A CRPF jawan was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting two women in the city’s Chitpur area. The jawan, who was returning from election duty in Baruipur in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, reached the Kolkata railway station on Sunday night to catch a special train, an official said. The jawan allegedly barged into a house next to the station on Sunday night and molested two sisters who were sleeping inside, the official said. “Hearing the women’s screams, locals came to rescue them and managed to nab the CRPF jawan who was trying to escape. They then informed us and our officers took him into custody,” the policeman said. The sisters lodged an FIR at the Chitpur police station, based on which the jawan was arrested, he said. Reacting to the incident, CRPF West Bengal Sector IG Birendra Kumar Sharma said the force has begun an investigation into the allegations and “necessary action” will be taken against the jawan if found guilty. Sharma said, “We have also started an investigation. If found guilty, appropriate action will be taken. The police will not tolerate any such behaviour.”
