Kolkata: TMC supporters stop Bengal BJP chief’s car, raise slogans

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress workers on Thursday stopped West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar’s car when he was on his way to Minakha village in North 24 Parganas district, police sources said. Majumdar was headed to an area hit by post-poll violence allegedly perpetrated by Trinamool workers. Majumdar’s visit was prompted by these incidents marked by the saffron party since the June 4 election results, party sources said. They claimed Trinamool supporters surrounded Majumdar’s car and stopped him while raising Jai Bangla slogans. Accusing the Trinamool of creating fear in the area after the election, Majumdar said his visit was aimed at assisting the affected people. “I have come to meet the affected people of the area. Tonight I am going to Delhi and will speak to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and request him to extend the period of presence of central forces in the state,” he said. Also, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari urged Governor C V Anand Bose to visit the disturbed areas. In the recent elections held in West Bengal, BJP got 12 seats, while Trinamool Congress got 29 seats.
