Lakhs of people take part in DYFI protests in Kerala against Centre’s neglect

Thiruvananthapuram: An estimated 15 lakh people, including men, women and children, took part in a human chain organized by CPI-M’s youth wing DYFI on Saturday to protest against the neglect of the coastal state by the Central government.

The human chain that started from Kasargod in North Kerala ended in front of the Governor House.

The human chain passed through main roads in cities and towns, organized to protest against the alleged arbitrariness of the BJP’s indifference towards Kerala.

DYFI All India President A.A. Rahim, a CPI-M Rajya Sabha member, led the protest at Kasaragod railway station, while the last person standing in front of the Governor House was veteran CPI-M leader and ruling Left Democratic Front convenor E.P. Were.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s wife Kamala Vijayan, his daughter Veena Vijayan and all top CPI-M leaders were also part of the human chain.

CPI-M state secretary M.V. Govindan said that this protest is against the arbitrariness of the Center towards Kerala.

“The real reason behind the Centre’s attitude towards Kerala is basically to harass us so that we cannot move forward in any way. Our funds have also not been released. We had also asked the Congress-led opposition to hold our protest program in New Delhi on February 8. But he has refused to participate in it,” Govindan said.
