Langer criticized Bancroft’s non-selection in Australia Test team
Perth: Former Australia head coach Justin Langer has criticized Cameron Bancroft’s non-selection in the Test squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies, saying the right-handed opening batsman will be disappointed by it.
Bancroft has been the leading run-scorer in the Sheffield Shield for the past two seasons, while leading Western Australia to consecutive victories. But he was ignored by the selectors, who announced that Steve Smith would be the new opening batsman of the Test team after David Warner retired from the format.
Cameron Green will bat at number four, while Matthew Renshaw will be the reserve batsman. Langer coached Bancroft in the Western Australia team and even the national team during the 2019 Ashes. “It is disappointing that Cameron Bancroft is not selected for this next Test match against the West Indies. He will be destroyed.”
“The mantra of all the selectors is to tell the ambitious players to score runs, take wickets and knock on doors. Be so good that we can’t ignore you. This message was given to Bancroft. All are players. “He has taken the advice,” Langer wrote in his column for The West Australian.
He also believes that Bancroft did everything he was asked to do. “His numbers are excellent. Not only has he scored a lot of runs, but his fielding on the slip or bat pad is as good as any player in the country. Many good judges have pointed out the weight of his runs, they are indisputable.
“Critics can point to his weaknesses of the past. Every player who is even a little good gets thrown out, looks for feedback and then goes away and gets better. Bancroft has ticked this box too.
“His numbers are excellent. Not only has he scored a lot of runs, but his fielding on the slip or bat pad is as good as any player in the country. He is at that age where players like Michael Hussey, Chris Rodgers and Adam Voges have come and dominated. Many good judges have pointed out the weight of his runs, they are undisputed.”
Bancroft served a nine-month ban due to the 2018 sandpaper scandal in Cape Town, but was recalled to the Test squad for the 2019 Ashes. He played the first two Tests before being dropped from the Test team. Langer dismissed any suggestion of tension in the team over Bancroft’s role in the Cape Town scandal in 2018.
“Others may point to his past and a major error of judgment in South Africa. He, like no one else, doesn’t know what he did wrong. He has taken big steps forward, like Steve Smith and David Warner Did this after his suspension. Hopefully he has been forgiven for that.
He said, “Form may not be an issue. Timing is also not an issue. David Warner has recently retired. Cameron Bancroft will be feeling disappointed, as well as Marcus Harris, who has been in the queue for some time. Matthew Renshaw is quite happy.” Will be.” Added.
Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody, through his ex-account, described Bancroft’s non-selection as shocking. “Selection is never an easy task but Cameron Bancroft’s oversight has been astonishing. His first-class numbers are so impressive compared to his peers that it seems there is another agenda which I hope he has been told honestly about!”
