Large consignment of banned material seized, one arrested

Hatsingimari: South Salmara Mankachar Police succeeded in seizing a huge consignment of contraband while it was in transit.

Acting on specific information, a police team launched an operation in South Salmara-Mankachar district of the state. They searched a passenger bus with registration number AS 18 C 7806 on the way to Mankachar. The bus was stopped and searched on Sonapur Pagalartol main road.

During the search, the police team also found a large quantity of Triprolidine Hydrochloride and Codeine Phosphate Syrup as well as Tramadol Hydrochloride Acetaminophen Dicyclomine Hydrochloride capsules.

A suspected smuggler was also arrested with contraband from the vehicle. His name was revealed to be Musa Islam, who is a resident of the same district. Necessary action has been initiated against the suspected seller.

Similar operations are being carried out across the state and recently the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati Zonal Unit has busted an interstate drug smuggling racket by arresting two smugglers. According to sources, based on credible inputs and continuous surveillance, NCB, Guwahati Zonal Unit busted an interstate network involved in the supply of methamphetamine from Moreh in Manipur to Cooch Behar in West Bengal. The smugglers have been identified as BM Raheesh and BM Hafiz Aneesh, both from Imphal West, Manipur.

The arrest took place on Tuesday morning at Guwahati railway station when the hawkers were traveling towards Cooch Behar (West Bengal) in a Rajdhani train. Upon search, 9.669 kg of methamphetamine was seized from their possession. The confiscated items were packed in plastic, concealed in clothes and blankets, and stashed in hand luggage on trains. The team traced the source of the seized contraband to Moreh, Manipur and the intended destination to Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
