Members of the Iranian parliament chanted “Death to America.” Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf responded by warning that the US military and Israel would become their targets. He said the Iranian people should know that they will act very harshly and that those arrested will be severely punished. He said that preemptive strikes will be carried out on the ‘occupied territory’ (Israel) and the American military. According to human rights activists in the United States, the death toll from the crackdown on Iranian protesters is rising, with around 2,600 people arrested.
Piles of corpses in Iranian hospitals
The Iranian government’s crackdown on protesters has left dozens dead and hundreds injured, with hospitals across the country, including the capital Tehran, piled high with bodies and wards overflowing with patients, medical workers said.
The morgue at Porsina Hospital in Rasht, northern Iran, was overwhelmed on Friday night after 70 bodies arrived, they said.
