Light rain likely in Tamil Nadu till June 13

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has reported that light rain is likely at isolated locations in Tamil Nadu until Saturday (June 13). According to the Meteorological Department, this situation is due to a weather system developing in the state, which may cause thunderstorms and lightning in many areas.

A press release issued by the Central Government states that a low-pressure area is active from coastal Karnataka to coastal Andhra Pradesh. Due to this weather system, light rain and thundershowers are likely at one or two locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Tuesday (June 9) to June 13. The Meteorological Department has stated that this situation will be temporary, but its impact may vary across various districts.

The weather is expected to be particularly active on Tuesday. Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two locations in Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chennai, and Chengalpattu districts on this day. These areas may experience sudden changes in weather and brief heavy rainfall, prompting local residents to remain vigilant.

The weather may also impact the southern and western parts of the state. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Tirunelveli district, the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Erode districts. Due to the high intensity of rainfall in the hilly areas, caution is advised, as landslides and waterlogging are possible.

According to the Meteorological Department, this seasonal change is due to the influence of the southwest monsoon and sea breezes. The active low-pressure area is increasing humidity, leading to unstable weather conditions in various locations. The department also stated that rainfall will be light in some areas, while it may be more intense in some hilly areas.

Chennai and surrounding districts are also expected to experience cloudy skies and intermittent light rain. This could lead to a slight drop in temperatures, bringing some relief from the heat.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public and authorities to monitor the weather and take necessary precautions. People have been advised to avoid outdoors, especially in areas where heavy rain and lightning are expected.

Overall, the weather will remain variable across various parts of Tamil Nadu for the next few days, with light to moderate rainfall expected to continue.
