Literature connects society and people: President Murmu

Bhopal (IANS). Inaugurating the International Literature Festival ‘Unmesh’ as well as the Folk and Tribal Art Festival ‘Utkarsh’ in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal, President Draupadi Murmu said that literature connects society and people.

Tribal artistes from different parts of the country are participating in the function organized at Rabindra Bhavan. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that literature connects the society and also connects people to each other.

He said that only those literature and arts are meaningful which were created and presented by rising above ‘I’ and ‘mine’. Translation of major works of all Indian languages into other languages will further enrich Indian literature.

The President said that literature has shown the mirror to humanity, saved it and also taken it forward. Literature and art have preserved the sensitivity and compassion, that is, the humanity of man. The writer and the artist deserve praise for participating in this most sacred mission of protecting humanity.

The President said that literature gave strength to the ideals of our freedom struggle. Many writers in every corner of the country gave expression to the ideals of freedom and renaissance. Novels, stories, poems and dramas written during the period of Indian Renaissance and freedom struggle are popular even today and have a wide impact on our minds.

The President said that in a world facing many challenges, we have to find effective ways to build better understanding among people of different cultures and beliefs. Storytellers and poets have a central role in this effort because literature has the unique ability to connect our experiences and bridge differences.

We must harness the power of literature to highlight our common destiny and strengthen our global community, he added. Progress of tribal brothers and sisters is necessary for India to become a developed nation. Tribal youth also want to fulfill their hopes and aspirations. It should be our collective effort to make them partners in development while preserving their culture, ethos, customs and natural environment.

Many people including Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were present on this occasion.
