Low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal likely to bring rain to several districts of Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu: A low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is expected to cause changes in weather across many parts of South India over the next few hours. This system is active in the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the northern Sri Lankan coast, and is currently located in that region. According to the Meteorological Department, it is expected to strengthen further today, May 13th.
Currently, another low-pressure trough-like area is developing from the center of the low-pressure system, extending from southern Tamil Nadu to southern Lakshadweep. This has led to increased cloud activity in the surrounding areas, and weather instability is being observed.
The Chennai Meteorological Department had earlier reported that due to atmospheric circulation in the southeast Arabian Sea and the Lakshadweep region along the Kerala coast, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning may occur at isolated locations in South Tamil Nadu, the delta districts, and the Karaikal region on Tuesday, May 12th.
According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, and Karaikal over the next two hours, until 10 am. These areas are expected to remain cloudy and experience sudden changes in weather.
The Meteorological Department has also indicated that the intensity and area of rainfall may change in the coming days depending on the location and strength of this system. Local authorities and residents have been advised to monitor the weather conditions.
The impact of this weather activity is likely to be felt primarily in coastal and deltaic regions, where moisture and cloud activity are already prevalent.
