MADURAI: Tangedco asks customers to pay compensation for cheating

Madurai: The Thoothukudi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on Thursday directed Tangedco to pay an aggrieved consumer ₹62,152 for service deficiency, sources reported. Complainant Pichammal, a resident of Kovilpatti, discovered a high-tension power line passing over her land.
Pichammal contacted the Tangedco Executive Engineer in Sankarankovil to have the line replaced. Officials inspected the site and prepared a cost estimate. Pichammal then paid the cost, and the pole replacement was completed. However, she later felt cheated because the cost was significantly higher than the estimate.
The victim filed a case with the Commission, demanding action. Following an investigation, panel chair Chakravarthy and members Shankar and Namachivayam directed Tangedco to refund ₹27,152 to the complainant, and provide compensation of ₹25,000 for mental agony and ₹10,000.
