Mahakumbh in Dehradun: CM Dhami inaugurates state level sports Mahakumbh

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘State Level Sports Mahakumbh-2023’ in the state capital and said participating in sports is important for the mental, physical and social development of a person.

Chief Minister Dhami inaugurated the state level sports Mahakumbh by releasing tricolor balloons at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun. Addressing the people present at the event, Chief Minister Dhami said, “Sports bring excitement and enthusiasm in our lives and create passion. Sports are important for the mental, physical and social development of an individual.”

“Also from the health point of view, sports play an important role in staying healthy and ensuring mental strength. Sports teach a person about teamwork, in which players develop personally and learn to hone their skills and strengths. This is because when the entire team works as a unit, everyone gets the opportunity to learn from each other,” CM Dhami said.

He said, “State level Sports Mahakumbh is a great platform for the young players of our Uttarakhand to showcase their talent.”
“Anybody can make their mark here, even a boy or girl born in a poor or underprivileged family can qualify as a national star and make their mark through this platform. Keeping this idea in mind, our Uttarakhand government is maintaining and promoting sports. Mahakumbh,” Dhami said.
This is why the number of participants in the state level Khel Mahakumbh has increased from 2 lakh to 4 lakh and we are sure that this number will also increase to 4-5 lakh.”

Khel Mahakumbh is a state level sports event which takes place every year for three months. The event features a variety of sports including athletics, kabaddi, kho-kho, table tennis, swimming, boxing, lawn tennis and badminton. The aim of Khel Mahakumbh is to prepare the players for the National Games.

Khel Mahakumbh also includes competitions in indoor and outdoor sports like wrestling, basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, handball, chess, carrom and badminton.
It also provides a platform to the youth to showcase their sporting abilities and inspire them to consider sports as a career.
