Man arrested for cheating laptop rental company
CHENNAI: The city police on Saturday arrested a 27-year-old man who defrauded a technology services company by renting around 500 laptops on the pretext of running the company and selling the laptops to them.
The complainant, J Premalatha (43) of Virugambakkam, runs a company ‘Technical Systems Pvt Ltd’, which rents laptops. A few months ago, accused Dinesh Lingam had contacted Premalatha claiming to run a company by the name of ‘Dinesh Communications’ and had taken 496 laptops on rent.
When the woman approached Dinesh for the outstanding rent amount of Rs 21 lakh, Dinesh kept avoiding her. He also failed to return the laptop on time.
Investigation revealed that Dinesh had sold some laptops, he had returned only 57 laptops to Premlata and kept the rest with himself.
Police recovered 312 laptops from him. The police also confiscated his two-wheeler and car.
