Man arrested for extorting money by pretending to be IB officer
Guwahati (IANS). The Assam Police arrested a vicious person on Monday. The accused was extorting money from people by posing as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer.
The accused has been identified as Abhishek Deb. He was arrested from Hailakandi near Cachar in southern Assam.
In Cachar, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta told IANS, “Abhishek Deb was projecting himself as a top IB officer of Assam. He lured people into doing work and took a lot of money from many people.”
The accused is a resident of Hailakandi district. Police took the accused into custody on Sunday night and brought him to Cachar district for questioning.
Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta told that we have arrested him. The man was active in the area for several months. He has cheated many people. The police team has interrogated him to get more information.
Police said that Abhishek Deb had also tried to cheat a person in Cachar district recently. Snatched some money from him. Later that person lodged a police complaint against Abhishek Deb.
When the Cachar police started the investigation, it was found that the accused had robbed many people. After which he was taken into custody.
