Man gets life imprisonment for raping and murdering lover

Keonjhar: Keonjhar District and Sessions Court on Friday convicted Sushant Nayak of rape and murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Nayak.

The court ordered that in case of non-payment of fine, Nayak will have to undergo additional imprisonment for one month.

The court convicted Nayak on the basis of statements of 20 witnesses and other evidence.

However, the other accused in this case were acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence.

As per the details of the case, in 2022, Nayak of Basantpur village under Pandapada police limits of Keonjhar district had asked his lover (victim) to come behind his house. After the girlfriend reached the backyard of the house, the hero along with his friends raped her one by one.

They then murdered him and threw the body in a nearby empty pond.

The next day, the family informed the Pandapada police after seeing the body floating in the pond. The police investigated the case with the help of the scientific team. Nayak was arrested and sent to court.
