Manipur: A smuggler arrested in Imphal East, drugs worth Rs 3 lakh recovered
Imphal: Manipur Police, continuing its drive against drug smugglers/peddlers, has arrested an alleged drug smuggler in the jurisdiction of the Heingang Police Station in the Imphal East district, and seized a substantial quantity of banned narcotic substances.
The arrest and seizure were made when trying to smuggle the illegal items to their counterparts in Assam on Thursday. The seized items originated from Myanmar, the police reported on Friday.
On getting reliable information, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the Heingang police station raided a tip and arrested the individual along with 24 soap cases of different colours containing heroin (drug) weighing around 310 grammes worth around Rs 3 lakhs in the regional markets.
Meanwhile, heroin powder, locally called Number four (4), is available at the rate of around Rs 1000 per gram in the local clandestine markets
In the follow-up action, the police arrested the alleged smuggler, later identified as Md. Mustakim (29), a resident of Sangaiyumpham Part-1, Thoubal district from Mantripukhri under Heingang police station, Imphal East district.
From his possession, the following were recovered:
i. twenty-four soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing approximately 310 grams, and
ii. one four-wheeler Maruti Swift, bearing Regd. No. AS-01-BE-7900.
The police report further stated that the arrestees were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023, for further legal proceedings.
