Manipur: Six security personnel injured in militant attack
Imphal. Five Manipur Police commandos and a BSF jawan were injured in an attack by suspected Kuki militants at Moreh on the border in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
Police officials in Imphal said, “Suspected Kuki militants targeted vehicles carrying police commandos and border security personnel. Five police commandos and a BSF rifleman were injured in this attack. He was attacked when he was on his way to Moreh, a border town near Myanmar.”
When police commandos and BSF jawans were jointly conducting a search operation to nab the militants, they opened fire on the security forces with sophisticated weapons. All the injured security personnel were airlifted to Imphal for better treatment.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has condemned the attack. The CM also visited the hospitals where injured security personnel are undergoing treatment. Along with this incident on Tuesday, 11 security personnel have been injured in separate incidents of extremist attacks in the same Tengnoupal district since Saturday.
In a separate incident on Monday evening, four people were killed and 14 others injured by armed assailants in Lilong Chingjao in Thoubal district.
The armed attackers, dressed in police uniform, had come in four vehicles. They had opened fire with sophisticated weapons after a fight over extorting money from people. The killers have not been identified yet.
