Manipur violence: BJP criticizes Congress over ruckus in Parliament

New Delhi (IANS). The BJP on Thursday attacked the Congress after both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day following an opposition uproar over the Manipur violence, as the party overrode the incident of two women being paraded naked and allegedly gang-raped. But the opposition raised questions. The ruling party sought the Congress’s stand on such a “sensitive matter”.

The Congress and the opposition are debating the rules under which the discussion will take place.”

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad told a press conference at the party headquarters here, “The incident in Manipur is unfortunate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned it and assured strict action (against the guilty). We wanted a discussion on this in both the Houses of Parliament as it is a serious matter for us. this is so sad.”

He further said, “We want to ask the Congress party, what is your stand on such sensitive issues? Do you really want a discussion or want to inflate your ego over the rules under which the discussion will take place?”

Strongly condemning the gruesome incident, he said, “What happened in Manipur is shameful. We condemn it. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has informed that one of the accused has been arrested. Strict action initiated.” Its being done.”

“However, the video of the incident, which took place in May, surfaced on social media a day before the Parliament session began. It raises questions about the timing,” the former Union minister said.

He reiterated that the central government led by Narendra Modi is fully committed to the safety of women.

The senior BJP leader said, “The Congress party has made a pattern of bringing up an issue at the beginning of every session of Parliament and not allowing discussion and then running away.”
