Many changes needed in Madurai Master Plan 2041: MADITSSIA Chairperson
Madurai: Stating that several changes are required in the draft Madurai Master Plan 2041 to boost the growth of the MSME sector in Madurai, MADITSSIA Chairperson RM Lakshmi Narayanan highlighted several issues that need to be addressed to bring growth in the sector. should be addressed.
Speaking to the media in Madurai on Monday, Lakshmi Narayanan said the clarification given by the authorities on conversion of industrial land for agricultural and commercial use is shocking. “The LPA official said the land was transferred because no industrial development was done on the land. Such repeated conversion of land will greatly impact the development of the industry sector and other areas in Madurai,” he said.
He further said that as per the present notification, it should be ensured whether factories are located on the land of deleted survey number or not.
“If a factory exists on such land, the condition of small business owners will be affected due to land conversion. Many survey numbers have been removed in Kappalur, Nagari and Nallur, which have been declared industrial areas. There are no other industrial estates in Madurai district except Pudhur and Kepurar Industrial Estates. Moreover, red category factories are not allowed to operate here due to pollution control norms. Meanwhile, red category industries like rubber, which play a major role in the economic development of Madurai, are operating with proper permits. Industrial land management is essential for the functioning of such industries,” said Lakshmi Narayanan.
“At present, there is an option to lodge objections on the website of the Local Planning Committee. Accordingly, the information entered will be sent to the Chennai office and if accepted, the solution will be provided. At present, only those people who have knowledge about it can register for it. If this is not done and industrial land is reclassified, the factory running on such land can get redressal only if it approaches the court,” he said.
“The announcement of more industrial land will bring considerable development, and allow mini cluster-based development on area-centric products like coir products in Sholavandan, toys in Vilacherry and many others. When these areas will be connected and the government will announce 25 cents to two acres of industrial land in outlying areas for small group industries, there will be opportunities for the development of small industries in rural areas,” he said.
