MDMK’s Election Manifesto Released

Tamil Nadu: The MDMK’s election manifesto was released on Tuesday by the party’s General Secretary, Vaiko.
Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the event for the release of the MDMK’s election manifesto was held on Tuesday at the party headquarters in Egmore, Chennai. Vaiko released a booklet containing 51 sections of promises. The key highlights included therein are as follows: Steps will be taken to safeguard secularism in Tamil Nadu; religion-based political parties will be banned; and awareness regarding the importance of secularism will be fostered among the public through education and outreach. We will stage vigorous protests to halt the Mekedatu dam project.
The Tamil Nadu government will be urged to provide an internal quota of 4.6 percent for Dalit Christians within the Backward Classes reservation category. Efforts will be undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government to establish a Tamil advocacy organization across the entire country. Nutritious food, educational opportunities, and women’s empowerment will be ensured for those living in poverty. We will urge the government to allocate 1 percent of the commercial revenue generated by the Tiruppur district as a special fund dedicated to improving its infrastructure. We will demand strict action—encompassing various aspects—against those responsible for deaths occurring in police custody. Speaking to journalists after releasing the election manifesto, Vaiko stated: “While the MDMK was allotted 6 seats in the previous 2021 Assembly elections, this time we have been allotted 2 fewer seats. The DMK leadership explained that they could only allot fewer seats because new parties have joined the alliance. We have honored the promise I (Vaiko) made to former Chief Minister Karunanidhi—that I would support M.K. Stalin under any circumstances—and we have happily accepted this arrangement, even though the seat count is lower. The MDMK is prepared to sacrifice Assembly seats in order to protect Dravidian principles in Tamil Nadu,” he added.
