MEA Secretary Kumar meets IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and discusses peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology

New Delhi (ANI): Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, on Monday met International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi and discussed various issues of mutual interest, including strengthening India-India cooperation. IAEA.
The two leaders also discussed the role of the IAEA in promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology in Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific and in areas such as energy, health, food and agriculture.
Official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi said this on the social media platform.

He said, “The discussions covered a number of topics of mutual interest, including the role of the IAEA in promoting peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology in areas such as energy, health, food and agriculture, strengthening cooperation between India and the IAEA. IAEA Director General arrived in India on Monday on an official visit.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Arindam said: “Director General @iaeaorg @rafaelmgrossi is warmly welcomed on his maiden visit to India as Director General of the IAEA. His visit will further strengthen relations between India and the IAEA in various fields.” Bagchi wrote in ‘X’.
Earlier today, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar also met International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi. The two discussed the importance of nuclear energy for development and exchanged views on nuclear non-proliferation and international cooperation.

According to the IAEA’s official website, the IAEA is a center for cooperation in the nuclear field and seeks to promote the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.
Grossi took office as the sixth Director-General of the IAEA on December 3, 2019. In September 2023, the 67th IAEA General Conference approved his re-election to a second four-year term, starting on 3 December 2023.
Grossi is a diplomat with nearly 40 years of experience in the field of non-proliferation and disarmament. According to the IAEA website, in 2013 he was appointed Argentina’s Ambassador to Austria and Argentina’s representative to the Vienna-based IAEA and other international organizations.
Meanwhile, India has been a founding member of the IAEA since 1957. The country has served on the IAEA Board of Governors since its establishment.
Other members include Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
