Mehbooba Mufti spoke about Article 370

New Delhi. People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said on Saturday that the activities of the Jammu and Kashmir administration are indicating that the Supreme Court’s decision on petitions related to Article 370 of the Constitution may be against the interest of the country. Mufti told reporters in Anantnag, “Since Friday night, we are seeing that lists containing names of workers of various parties, especially PDP, are being taken through police stations and it seems that some decision is about to come which will affect the life of this country.” And should not be in favor of Jammu and Kashmir. To further the BJP’s agenda, some precautionary measures are being taken, which is unfortunate.”

He stressed that it is the responsibility of the apex court to ensure that it does not further the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but instead upholds the integrity of the country and its Constitution. Mufti said the court’s decision should make it clear that the decision taken by the BJP-led central government on August 5, 2019, regarding abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 was “illegal, unconstitutional”.

He said, “First the Supreme Court took a lot of time in hearing the cases. It took five years. Then, the Supreme Court in its previous decision said that no one except the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir can abrogate Article 370. Mufti said, “Therefore I think the decision should be simple that five Whatever was done in August 2019 was illegal, unconstitutional, against the promises made to Jammu and Kashmir and its people.

Earlier, while addressing party workers, Mufti said that the police have become active and are planning to detain people associated with the PDP. He said this has raised doubts whether there was a ‘fixed match’. He said, “Whether you want to keep the Indian Constitution and democracy alive or the agenda of BJP – it is for you to decide. But I see that the police has become active since Friday night. They are making lists so that people can be detained before the verdict. This raises suspicion whether there is any fixed match.

The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that the Constitution of the country is more important and sacred than the agenda of BJP. Responding to Mufti’s comment, BJP Jammu and Kashmir unit president Ravindra Raina said that politics should not be done on the Supreme Court or its decision on petitions related to Article 370. Speaking to reporters here, he said, “There should be no politics on the Supreme Court or its decisions as it is considered contempt of court. The courts of the country are supreme and there is nothing higher than that. I am sure that Jammu and Kashmir and all the 140 crore people of the country will wholeheartedly respect and accept this decision.”
