Miscreants looted jewelery worth more than Rs 3 lakh from a woman
Dhenkanal: In Odisha, miscreants looted jewelery worth more than Rs 3 lakh and asked a woman to walk 51 steps to meet God. The incident took place on a busy road in Meenabazar area of Dhenkanal city on Saturday.
According to reports, a woman was returning home with her daughter after getting her mobile phone repaired in Dhenkanal on Saturday, when she became the victim of a robbery worth Rs 3 lakh.
Reportedly, Swarnprabha Sahu was returning home with her daughter when a gang of two robbers fooled her, cleverly won her trust and made away with her gold jewelery as well as cash totaling over Rs 3 lakh. Succeeded in escaping.
In Meenabazar area, a person was pretending to be an astrologer, while another member of the gang was acting as a customer. Both of them cleverly lured the woman into their trap so that they could win her trust. First, one impostor asked the other to walk 51 steps to meet God and pray for the bad omen of his family members. He asked the woman to keep the man’s money with her for some time. Then he came back walking 51 steps and behaved as if he had really met God.
After seeing this incident the ordinary woman believed him. Meanwhile, one of the fraudsters told the woman that her daughter, son and husband were going through a very bad phase and if she did not do anything about it, her son might have to face the music by this evening. This was enough for the woman to strive for the well-being of her family members, for which she lost jewelery worth over Rs 3 lakh.
The fraudsters then asked the woman to hand over the jewelery to the person who was posing as a customer and walk 51 steps so that she could meet God and pray for the well-being of her family members who were in grave danger. As the robbers said. He also asked him not to look back during the walk. Trusting them, the woman walked a few steps with her daughter and when she looked back, both the miscreants had fled from the spot.
It was only after the incident that the woman came to know that she had been cheated. The miscreants very cleverly looted a gold chain, two gold rings, mangalsutra and Rs 8,000 from the woman.
When he realized that he had been fooled and robbed, he reported the matter to the Dhenkanal Town police station. Police personnel visited the spot and started investigation to nab the culprits. Police have also collected CCTV footage of the robbery. Further investigation of the case is ongoing.
