MK Stalin calls those who cleared the civil services exam as ‘silent heroes’

Chennai: Calling all those who cleared this year’s civil service examination from Tamil Nadu “silent heroes,” Chief Minister M.K. Stalin told them that now that their dreams have come true, it is their duty to focus on helping people fulfill their dreams through their good service. Addressing a function held at Victoria Hall to felicitate those who cleared the examination conducted by the UPSC to select officers for the IAS, IPS, IFS, and other central government services, Stalin said that 56 of the 60 successful candidates from the state had received special coaching and training under the state government’s “Naan Mudhalvan” scheme. Congratulating the winners for clearing one of the toughest competitive examinations in India, and indeed in the world, the Chief Minister said that if so many candidates from Tamil Nadu have passed, it is due to the hard work of the current DMK government, which realized that the number of candidates appearing for the civil service every year was very low. He said that through the Naan Mudhalvan scheme launched by the current government, civil service candidates received the necessary coaching to prepare for the exam and special training to face the personal interview.

Emphasizing the importance of humility and concern for others, he said that civil service officers should be courteous when dealing with people and especially make time to care for their parents, spouses, and children, even when they are busy with their work. He said that he understands the lives of officers because many of them work with him for the government. Appealing to the “winners” to be kind and loving towards the common people, he said that they should work for the country’s development from a perspective of social justice, and that this is essential for their career growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said that there was a time when civil service candidates used to go to Delhi for coaching, but now the facilities available at the All-India Civil Service Coaching Centre in Chennai have changed the situation. He said that two of the winners from Tamil Nadu this year topped the rankings, securing a place in the top ten. Describing the financial and other support provided to those training at the state government’s coaching center in Chennai, he said that the hostel facility has enabled candidates from other districts to receive training. The Deputy Chief Minister said that there has been an increase in interest in the civil services in general, and more candidates are applying for scholarships offered under the Nan Mudhalvan Scheme.
