Monsoon shows speed in Delhi-NCR, weather becomes pleasant due to heavy rains
New Delhi: Monsoon finally hit Delhi-NCR on Tuesday. For the first time this season, widespread and good rainfall was recorded in the capital and surrounding areas, which brought great relief to the people from the sultry heat that had been going on for several days. Due to rain, there was a significant drop in temperature and the maximum temperature came down to about 10 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for two days, predicting the rain to continue for the next four days.
Since Tuesday morning, the sky remained densely cloudy in most parts of Delhi-NCR. After this, intermittent heavy rain occurred in many areas, while heavy rain was seen at some places. The impact of the rain was felt in the capital as well as the entire NCR region including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad and Greater Noida.
Big change in weather
For the past several days, people of Delhi-NCR were troubled by the scorching sun, humidity and hot winds. Due to continuously increasing humidity, people were feeling uncomfortable both during the day and night. Tuesday’s rain changed the entire mood of the weather. Due to cool winds and clouds the atmosphere became pleasant and people felt relief from the heat.
According to meteorologists, due to rain, the maximum temperature dropped by about 10 degrees Celsius. This not only reduced the heat but also improved the air quality and environment.
Rainiest day this year
According to the Meteorological Department, Tuesday was the rainiest day so far in the year 2026. Good rainfall was recorded at most of the weather stations in the capital. Due to heavy rains in many areas, roads were flooded and traffic was also affected at some places. However, the rain provided relief from the heat and brought a lot of relief to the people.
Rain will continue for the next four days
India Meteorological Department (IMD) estimates that monsoon activities in Delhi-NCR will not weaken yet. There is a possibility of cloudy sky and intermittent light to moderate rain for the next four days. Heavy rain may also occur at some places.
The Meteorological Department has also predicted rain with thunderstorms and strong winds during this period. In view of this, the administration and related agencies have been advised to remain alert.
Yellow alert for two days
In view of the possibility of rain, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next two days. Yellow alert means that people need to be alert about weather conditions. Caution has been advised especially in waterlogged areas, low lying areas and routes affected by traffic.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and keep an eye on the latest weather updates.
Waterlogging and traffic affected in many areas
After heavy rains, waterlogging was also seen in some low-lying areas of the capital. Due to accumulation of water on many major roads, the speed of vehicles slowed down and traffic jams occurred at some places. However, the Municipal Corporation and related agencies deployed teams for drainage and tried to normalize the situation.
Office goers and school-college students also faced some problems due to the rain, but most people saw it as a respite from the scorching heat.
Relief for farmers and environment
Experts believe that timely monsoon rains will prove beneficial for the agriculture sector as well. Farmers farming in rural areas adjacent to Delhi and surrounding states will benefit from this. Apart from this, rain is also expected to improve groundwater level and increase greenery.
The administration appealed to be cautious
The administration has appealed to the people to avoid going to waterlogged areas during rains, maintain distance from electric poles and open wires and stay in safe places during heavy rains. Drivers have also been advised to drive carefully and follow traffic rules.
At present the Meteorological Department estimates that monsoon has become fully active in Delhi-NCR. If the current weather system persists, the capital and surrounding areas may see good rain in the coming days.
