More than 20 people arrested in pro-Palestine protest
Canberra: Australian police said on Wednesday that more than 20 people had been arrested after overnight pro-Palestinian protests in a Sydney suburb.
About 400 people carried out “unauthorized protest activity” in Port Botany on Tuesday night and blocked vehicular traffic on Foreshore Road, Xinhua news agency quoted a statement from the New South Wales Police Force as saying.
“After several people refused police instructions, 23 people were arrested before everyone left the street,” the statement said.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the protest organized by Palestine Justice Movement Sydney was directed at Israeli shipping company ZIM, which has offered its support to the Israeli government in the Gaza conflict and had a ship in the port on Tuesday.
