More than one thousand prisoners in jail got bail
Bilaspur. By holding regular meetings of the Under Trial Review Committee constituted in the District Legal Services Authorities and running a special campaign, the eligible under trial prisoners detained in various jails of Chhattisgarh were released on bail. This action was taken under the guidance and constant monitoring of Justice Gautam Bhaduri, Executive Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority.
On the instructions of the Supreme Court, a special campaign was conducted by NALSA from 18 September to 20 November in view of the increasing crowd of prisoners in jails. In this, by holding a regular meeting of the Under Trial Review Committee, instructions were given to release the prisoners. The district judge of the District Legal Services Authority is the chairman and the collector, superintendent of police, jailer and secretary of the concerned district are the members in the committee, which holds a meeting and recommends the release of the prisoners on bail.
During the above two month period, a total of 114 meetings were organized by all the District Legal Services Authorities and recommendations were made to release the eligible custodial prisoners on bail.
The committee identified a total of 1389 prisoners and recommended giving the benefit of bail to 1222 prisoners. On this, 1086 prisoners have been released by the concerned court after providing them the benefit of bail. Let us inform that as per the instructions of Justice Gautam Bhaduri, Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, on 5 November 2023, the third “State Level Large Jail Lok Adalat” was also organized in all the jails of Chhattisgarh, in which 2-2 judicial magistrates from each district. A special sitting was also held, and action was taken to release the eligible prisoners immediately after resolving their cases in the jail itself. A total of 369 cases of eligible custody prisoners were resolved in the said Jail Lok Adalat.
