Mumbai: 21 transgenders arrested for creating nuisance in public places
Thane: Police have arrested a total of 21 transgenders for creating nuisance in public places in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. An official gave this information on Thursday. The action was taken by the Anti Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai Police. The police had received complaints from local residents and others that transgenders made objectionable gestures to passersby in various areas of Navi Mumbai and disturbed the peace.
He said that after this, AHTC formed three teams and took simultaneous action at various places including Uran Phata, Juinagar and APMC Truck Terminal on July 30 and detained the transgenders. He said that 12 transgenders were detained from Juinagar, six from APMC Truck Terminal and three from Uran Phata. He said that an FIR has been registered against them under Section 296 (obscene acts or songs) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) in CBD, Nerul and APMC police stations.
