Mumbai: Despite a cool morning, the city is shrouded in dense smog as air quality slips into the ‘severe’ category.

Maharashtra: Wednesday dawned cool and quite fresh in Mumbai, giving residents a brief sense of winter comfort on the last morning of 2025. Clear skies, light winds, and low humidity provided initial relief, but the good conditions didn’t last long. As the day progressed, a thick blanket of smog enveloped large parts of the city, reducing visibility and once again highlighting Mumbai’s worsening air pollution crisis.
Despite the good weather, air quality soon became the city’s biggest concern. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted a clear and comfortable day, with temperatures expected to hover between 18°C and 31°C. However, office-goers, morning walkers, and schoolchildren leaving early in the morning had to contend with hazy conditions and a strong, pungent odor in the air, especially in heavily trafficked and low-lying areas.
