Mumbai-train firing accused constable Chetan Singh sent to police custody till August 11
Mumbai (IANS). A Mumbai magistrate on Monday extended the police custody of Railway Protection Force constable Chetan Singh till August 11.
Chetan Singh shot dead an ASI and three passengers in a moving train on July 31.
The Government Railway Police probing the case produced the accused Chetan Singh in the court on Monday after his remand ended.
The police sought extension of the accused’s custody for seven days, saying they needed to identify the witnesses and scan the CCTV footage. However, the magistrate has extended the police custody of Chetan Singh till August 11.
Actually, this incident took place on July 31 in the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train near Palghar station in Maharashtra. Chetan Singh, a constable of the Railway Protection Force, shot dead an RPF ASI and three passengers in the train.
Following the killings, the GRP has also added Section 153(a) of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion in the case against Chetan Singh.
Chetan Singh was arrested near Mira Road station after he jumped from a train with his weapon. A magistrate sent Chetan Singh on one week’s police remand on August 1.
