National Press Day celebrated

National Press Day was celebrated in the office premises on Thursday under the aegis of Dhubri District Public Relations Office. One minute silence was observed in the memory of the deceased journalists. The meeting was chaired by Additional District Commissioner, Dhubri, Nitya Binod Wari and attended by Dr. (Professor) of Bholanath College, Dhubri. Upendrajit Sarma.

In his speech as the chief guest, Sarma praised the dedication of some senior journalists of Dhubri and said that journalists have a very important role in shaping the country and society.

Addressing the meeting, Wari said that journalists have been performing their duties despite going through many difficulties. He also mentioned the problems faced by journalists during the British era. In the meeting, presidents, secretaries and senior journalists of Dhubri Press Club, Dhubri Journalists Association, Dhubri Varta Jibi Association were honored with Phoolam Gamocha. Senior journalists Bijoy Kumar Sharma, Pronabasish Roy and Rajeev Sarma participated in the meeting. District Information and Public Relations Officer Prashant Goyari conducted the meeting.

Morigaon: National Press Day was celebrated at Pabitora Hut in Morigaon on Thursday. Morigaon District Journalists Association President Biranchi Kumar Sharma presided over the meeting, which was inaugurated by District Commissioner Devashish Sharma. In his inaugural speech, the District Commissioner said that independent and accountable media is an important part of the democratic system. Referring to the theme of this year’s National Press Day, “Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, he said that Artificial Intelligence will become an integral part of every person’s life at some point of time. He said, but the real challenge now is that we should take the right decisions about what should and should not be taken from artificial intelligence. Speaking in the keynote, Manas Pratim Sharma, Head of RND, Akashbani Guwahati, said that artificial intelligence is gradually starting to impact the daily lives of people. Issues like artificial intelligence or machine learning are now bringing about radical changes in the media landscape. He also talked about the proper use of social media and the concept of “deep fakes” which is widespread nowadays. Senior journalist Pratap Hazarika, speaking as the chief guest, said that Artificial Intelligence has made many things easier for people in many sectors but it has created big challenges in terms of employment in many sectors.
