Negligence of doctors and staff of district hospital, death of mother and child, family in shock
Sultanpur: A pregnant woman kept moaning and screaming in pain at the District Women’s Hospital in Sultanpur. The doctors and staff continued to sleep peacefully. When the family members woke him up, he got the reply that delivery would be done in the morning. In this, mother and child died in the morning. After this the family members created an uproar. The Principal of the Medical College also lost his sleep on receiving information about the commotion. He immediately issued an order to suspend the medical staff on duty. But, it is not clear in the order which doctor and health worker was deployed on duty at that time. This equivocal order shows that somewhere there is a game going on to save the real culprits.
Ambalika Verma, wife of Sunil Verma, resident of Katghara village of Gosainganj police station area, was pregnant. Village head Mohd. due to labor pain on Wednesday night. Shoaib took him along with his family members to the Government Medical College around 11 o’clock. Admitted to women’s hospital. When Ambalika’s family members went to call the doctor and staff when the pain became worse at night, everyone was busy sleeping peacefully. On insisting, all of them said delivery in the morning and again got busy sleeping. Meanwhile, the pregnant woman’s health deteriorated further during the night and by morning the mother and the baby in her womb died. The family members are in bad condition and crying.
Village head Mohd. Shoaib told that Ambalika Verma was admitted here at 11 pm last night. Once or twice I asked the doctor to see, but he did not see, then he wrote the test. I went to get tested. When I returned after getting the test done, I asked to see it but still I was not able to see it. After applying pressure for a long time, he looked at me and asked me to give him some castor oil. When they brought castor oil, the other doctor said not to give it, delivery would happen in the morning. At night the patient started hearing his hands and legs and then he was asked to go and take a look. But no one came, everyone was sleeping. If someone had come and seen, his life could have been saved. The mother-in-law of the deceased told that when we went to the doctor and asked her to go and get it checked, she got angry with me and scolded me and sent her away. If you had seen it or told us, you would have taken it somewhere else and shown it, at least life would have been saved.
Principal of Government Medical College, Dr. Salil Srivastava said that the mother died at five in the morning. Initial investigation has revealed negligence on the part of the staff. The doctors, staff and para medical staff on duty have all been suspended. A recommendation has been made to the DM for a magisterial inquiry.
