New app for instant access to voting registration and vote counting information: Gyanesh Kumar

Tamil Nadu: India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced on Friday that a new app has been launched to instantly access voter registration and vote counting details.

A team led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar spent two days in Chennai on Thursday and Friday to review preparations for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

After completing the review, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar told reporters:

Assembly elections are due soon in Tamil Nadu. The Election Festival is a major festival in Tamil Nadu. Therefore, all voters in Tamil Nadu should participate in this festival.

Tamil Nadu had a democratic system 1,000 years ago. Recently, 72 countries participated in an international conference organized by the Election Commission of India. At that time, we told the world about the Kudavolai system, which was used in Tamil Nadu in the 10th century. The world was very happy and proud of the ancient democratic values that prevail in Tamil Nadu. We conducted a study regarding the Assembly elections in collaboration with the Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Government, the Director General of Police, the District Collector, the District Superintendent of Police, and others. Of the 234 Assembly seats, there are 188 general seats, 44 reserved seats, and 2 tribal seats.

To ensure a smooth conduct of the elections, it is crucial to prepare the voter list without any errors. A special and intensive revision was carried out to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter is included.

Tamil Nadu has 56.7 million voters. Voters who have died and those whose names appear in more than one constituency have been removed from the voter list. 75,000 Polling Stations: Approximately 75,000 polling stations will be set up, of which 44,000 will be in rural areas. Voting will be monitored 100% live.

Transparency will be ensured at every polling station. The number of polling stations has been determined to allow an average of 756 voters per polling station, ensuring easy voting for voters.

In this election, there will be 258 polling stations staffed exclusively by women, 47 by persons with disabilities, and 265 model polling stations with all amenities.

Tamil Nadu has the highest number of women voters, with 28.9 million female voters and 27.7 million male voters. There are 7,617 transgender voters, 800,000 senior voters over the age of 85, and 2,530 voters over the age of 100.

Campaigns will be run in colleges to raise awareness among young voters.

New Initiatives: Facilities will be provided at every polling station to make voting easier for people with disabilities. One of the new initiatives will be the creation of collection points where voters can drop off their mobile phones before entering the polling booth. They can then collect them after returning from voting.
