NGT seeks latest report from DPCC regarding violation of environmental rules

New Delhi (ANI): The National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to look into the issue of alleged environmental violations at the Ghazipur slaughterhouse and submit a fresh report within the time limit. Eight weeks old. The NGT was hearing a case related to non-compliance of rules by the Ghazipur slaughter house run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). A bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava, which also included Dr A Senthil Vel, said that the earlier report submitted by a joint committee shows that in the joint inspection, it was found that untreated waste was removed from the sacrificial area And was ultimately thrown into the Yamuna river. , The microbiology and water quality analysis reports disclosed in the joint inspection report indicate the presence of total coliform, fecal coliform and E. coli count of 1.8 MPN/100 ml at the nanofiltration outlet, whereas, at the outlet of the RO filtration unit, the Court Said numbers were found to be 240 NMP/100 ml, 13/100 ml and 9.3/100 ml respectively. Taking note of the discrepancies, the tribunal, in an order dated October 20, 2023, directed a joint committee of the DPCC and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to conduct another inspection of the slaughter house after four weeks. The report submitted by the Joint Commission states that during the inspection conducted on August 7, 2023, it was found that the biomethanation plant was not installed for treatment of effluents such as rumen, stomach and intestinal contents, manure, agricultural waste etc. The committee said in its report that a flow meter has not been installed at the inlet of the gas pipeline, through which the waste material goes to the Ghazipur landfill. The report said that during the joint inspection, it was found that raw waste was removed from the slaughter area, leading to the plant’s open drain, which leads to the Yamuna river. Earlier, the committee had recommended that the MCD deposit environmental compensation of Rs. DPCC imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh for not setting up a biomethanation plant, but no EDC was deposited for not setting up a methanation plant.
