NIA Launches Search For 3 Wanted ISIS-linked Terrorists In Delhi

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a search in Delhi in an attempt to apprehend three wanted terrorists involved in the ISIS Module case in Pune, Maharashtra. Subsequently, as per sources, the agency has announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh earlier in the Month.

In a joint operation, Delhi and Pune police, alongside NIA teams, conducted raids in Central Delhi, but no substantial leads have emerged so far.

However, in prior multi-agency operation, authorities have identified the suspects as Mohammad Shahnawaz Alam (also known as Shafi Ujjama or Abdullah), Rizwan Abdul (alias Haji Ali), and Abdullah Fayaz Shaikh (alias Diaperwala), all of whom are currently evading capture. The investigation has zeroed in on mining engineer Shahnawaz, who resided in a Southeast Delhi locality, and managed to escape from Pune police custody back in July. Notably, he is an accomplished expert in the fabrication and assembly of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The search, as per sources, is also intensifying for two additional suspects, Abdullah and Rizwan.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), as per sources, is actively pursuing leads, in Delhi, regarding the three individuals identified in connection with the case involving an alleged ISIS module based in Pune. Additionally, the NIA has already identified the fourth individual, Talha Liyakat Khan, linked to the Pune ISIS module. This follows a series of raids conducted by the agency in August, resulting in the apprehension of several individuals believed to have played an active role in advancing the objectives of the banned terrorist organisation.

During these operations, the NIA uncovered a substantial cache of incriminating evidence, exposing the group’s conspiracy to disrupt peace and communal harmony within the country, as confirmed by an official source earlier this month. Also the NIA made an arrest in September, detaining Shamil Saquib Nachan in connection with the same case. The agency claims to have discovered additional material at Nachan’s residence in Thane district, shedding light on his alleged involvement and that of other co-conspirators in plotting acts of terror and destabilisation.

According to the NIA, Nachan collaborated with five other arrested individuals, namely Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Mohammed Imran Khan, Mohammed Yunus Saki, Simab Nasiruddin Kazi, and Abdul Kadir Pathan, alongside several other suspects. They were purportedly part of a larger scheme aimed at inciting violence across the nation through the creation and detonation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The agency asserts that these individuals operated as members of an ISIS sleeper cell.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Nachan and his associates assembled IEDs at a residence in Kondhwa, Pune, where they also conducted a training workshop in bomb assembly last year. Their intentions, as per the NIA, were to engage in a conflict against the Government of India, aligning with the ISIS agenda to spread terror and violence, ultimately with the aim of establishing an Islamic State within the country.
