No basic facilities in Handwara Library
Students in North Kashmir’s Handwara area today expressed disappointment over the lack of basic facilities in their local public library, terming it a hindrance to their reading experience.
Despite relocating to a new building near the post office two years ago, students claim the library still lacks essential facilities, discouraging many from using its resources. He highlighted the important role of internet access for students and job aspirants. “The primary need of a student or a job aspirant is the availability of internet, but here in this library we are suffering due to lack of internet. We don’t have a computer system here, which has made the situation worse for us,” said a student.
Reiterating the same sentiment, another student facing financial constraints stressed the importance of proper facilities for exam preparation. “I come from a very poor family and am not able to buy a laptop or computer system. If this facility was available in Handwara library, things would definitely have become easier for candidates like me to prepare for various competitive exams,” he said.
Moreover, lack of quality books has increased the frustration of the candidates. “What is the point of this library if it is not equipped with quality, competitive books? Since I am preparing for Union Public Service Commission, this library does not serve the purpose for students like me,” voiced another student.
