North Eastern Railway GM meets Nagaland CM
Guwahati: North Eastern Railway General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava on Monday met Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to discuss railway projects in Nagaland.
The meeting between the two was to outline the areas of concern related to smooth and easy implementation of various railway projects in the state.
Sabyasachi De, CPRO, NF Railway, said that the General Manager assured the Chief Minister that railway connectivity in the ongoing Dhansiri-Zubza new line project up to Molvom and Ferima would be achieved by September, 2024.
“The Railways will also develop a goods yard at Molavom as per the request of the state authorities. The General Manager also assured that NF Railways will develop rail infrastructure in the state as per the requirement of the state. The Chief Minister of Nagaland has also accepted the request of NF Railways. A high level committee has been constituted in the state to resolve the issues related to railways. The committee will now meet on a quarterly basis.
NF Railways aims to redefine railway infrastructure in the region. Apart from the Kohima Connectivity Project, which is expected to be operational by 2026, NF Railways also aims to provide direct rail connectivity between Kohima and Imphal, which are the capitals of Nagaland and Manipur respectively,” Sabyasachi Dey said.
The General Manager also informed the Chief Minister of Nagaland about its situation. Reconnaissance engineering cum traffic survey for Jubza-Imphal new line has been completed.
NF Railway is now in the stage of starting the final location survey for this new line soon, the contract for which has already been done.
Notably, NF Railways opened Shokhuvi railway station in Nagaland in 2022, the second railway station in the state after Dimapur to be opened after a gap of more than 100 years.
NF Railways, on behalf of Indian Railways, is making a significant contribution to the transformation of the North-Eastern States by implementing several new railway line connectivity projects. Construction of new railway lines to connect all the state capitals of the North-Eastern region with the rest of the country is being considered as top priority projects.
