Now the prices of onions have increased, the government has made preparations to keep them under control.

For the last few weeks, tomatoes are missing from the plate of common people. Its prices are skyrocketing across the country. Tomato has reached the level of Rs 250 per kg in some parts of the country. However, after the intervention of the government, now the prices of tomatoes have started softening. Taking a lesson from the fire in tomato prices, the government has already started preparing onions.
Onion Lessons From Tomatoes
According to a news from news agency PTI, the central government has started preparing buffer stock of onions. For this, the government is procuring onions on a large scale, so that after the end of the season, there is no shortage of onions and tomato-like situation is not seen.
Tomato prices started falling
If you look at the condition of tomatoes, in the last few days the price of tomato had crossed Rs 100 per kg in almost every part of the country. Right now it has reached Rs 250 per kg in many places. To give relief to the people and to control the retail prices of tomato, the government has started selling it at a subsidized rate. It is being made available at a discounted rate in Delhi-NCR. Due to this, the prices have started softening. According to reports, the wholesale prices of tomatoes have now come down to Rs 80 per kg.

According to PTI news, the government has bought 3 lakh tonnes of onions for buffer stock in the current financial year, which is 20 per cent more than last year. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Singh was quoted as saying that the government is working with the Bhabha Atomic Research Center to keep onions safe for longer.

The government had kept 2.51 lakh tonnes of onion for buffer stock in the financial year 2022-23. After the end of the season, when the supply starts decreasing in the market and the prices start increasing, then the government starts supplying onions from the buffer stock. The government says that it has completed preparations to control onion prices during the festive season.

According to government data, the average retail price of onion at all-India level on July 15 was Rs 26.79 per kg. Its maximum price was Rs 65 and the minimum was Rs 10 per kg.
