Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy Validity Extended Till 2026

Odisha: The Odisha government has decided to extend the validity of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021, implemented to promote electric vehicles in the state. The policy will now remain in effect until September 30, 2026. An official notification has been issued by the state’s Commerce and Transport Department in this regard.

The notification clarifies that the government has decided to extend the validity period of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021, exercising the powers conferred under the provisions of Paragraph 11.5 of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021. Previously, the policy was implemented to encourage the use of electric vehicles and strengthen the EV industry in the state.

The Odisha government launched this policy in 2021 with the aim of promoting the purchase and use of electric vehicles in the state, as well as encouraging the manufacturing of electric vehicles and their components. This policy was a step towards strengthening the state’s green transportation system.

Under this policy, the government is providing a variety of financial incentives to attract both individuals and industries to electric vehicles. These include incentives for manufacturing units, vehicle purchase subsidies, scrapping incentives for old vehicles, interest subsidies on loans, and exemptions on road tax and registration fees.

The government believes that these incentives will increase demand for electric vehicles in the state and promote a clean energy-based transportation system. Furthermore, this policy is playing a significant role in job creation and attracting investment as the electric vehicle industry is rapidly expanding.

According to the Commerce and Transport Department, the objective of extending the policy period is to ensure that the progress made in the electric vehicle sector is not hampered and that investors and consumers continue to enjoy a stable policy environment. This will strengthen the long-term growth potential of the EV sector in the state.

In the past few years, awareness about electric vehicles has increased in Odisha, and people are gradually adopting EVs instead of conventional fuel vehicles. Government subsidies and exemptions have further accelerated this shift.

Experts believe that extending the policy will also promote the development of EV infrastructure, such as charging stations and manufacturing units, in the state. This will not only help protect the environment but also reduce dependence on petrol and diesel.

The government has indicated that new schemes may be introduced in the future to further strengthen electric mobility. This will focus on expanding the charging network and promoting local production.

This decision is being considered a significant step towards green energy and clean transportation in Odisha, further strengthening the state’s development model for an environmentally friendly transportation system.
