Odisha Govt revises compassionate payment for human kill, house damage exercising Wildlife Rules

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government on Saturday revised the compassionate payment for Human kill and house damage in exercise of the powers conferred by rule 45-KK of the Wildlife (Protection) (Odisha) Rules 1974. Accordingly, the compassionate payment for human kill was revised to Rs 10 lakh.

A notification issued by the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department of the Odisha Government on Dt. 21 Jun 2025 said that compassionate payment for ‘Human kill’ (45-AA) was revised to Rs 10 lakh under the provision under the Wildlife (Protection) (Odisha) Rules, 1974.

Similarly, for part house damage under 45-FF, the compassionate about was revised as – Rs 10 thousand for part house damage, Rs 3 thousand for damage with referece to kitchen, paddy godown, cattle shed, goat shelter etc. and Rs 5 thousand per running meter limited to a maximum of Rs 25 thousand for damage to pucca boundary or compound wall.

Also, the compassionate amount was revised under 45-FF for a house under ‘Antodaya Gruha Yojana’ or equibalent financial benefit for full house damage.

The notification also clarified that the rate of compassionate payment of other types of depredations shall remain unchanged.
