Odisha: Massive fire at a three-storey market complex in Balangir.

Odisha Odisha: A massive fire broke out in a three-storey market complex in Gandhi Nagar area of Balangir city in the early hours of Friday. A total of eight shops were completely burnt down in this accident, while according to initial estimates, a loss of more than Rs 1 crore is expected. In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire is believed to be electrical short circuit.
The incident is reported to have taken place around 5:30 am, when smoke was seen coming from a shop located on the ground floor of the market complex. The local people present nearby at that time immediately considered the situation serious and informed the Fire Service Department. However, between the time the information was received and the arrival of the fire brigade, the fire had spread rapidly.
Within no time the fire spread from one shop to another and engulfed many parts of the entire building. The intensity of the fire was so high that within a short time a total of eight shops were completely burnt down. More than three fire tenders were deployed at the spot to control the fire. Firefighters brought the fire under control after several hours of hard work.
The shops that suffered the most damage in this massive fire include an automobile garage, furniture shop, mixer-grinder shop, vehicle spare parts shop, electric vehicle (EV) bike garage and part of a medicine shop. The goods and equipment kept in these shops were completely destroyed.
The biggest loss occurred in the garage, where around 20 vehicles including motorcycles, scooters and several electric vehicles brought for repair were completely burnt in the fire. Vehicle owners and shopkeepers have suffered huge financial losses, due to which there is an atmosphere of concern among local traders.
The fire has seriously damaged not only the shops but also the structure of the entire market complex. The goods, machines, electronic equipment and furniture kept inside the shops were completely destroyed. According to preliminary estimates, the total loss could be more than Rs 1 crore, although the final figure will be clear only after investigation.
After the incident, the local administration and fire department team reached the spot and took stock of the situation. After the completion of relief and rescue operations, a detailed assessment of the damage is now being done. Officials said that the fire has been completely controlled and the situation is now under control.
The matter of relief in this incident is that no loss of life has been reported. A major accident was averted because people got information about the fire in time. Due to the promptness of the local people and prompt action of the fire brigade, the fire could be prevented from spreading further.
The administration has started investigating this incident. Initially short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire, but the actual cause will be confirmed only after detailed investigation. It is also being seen whether any technical fault or negligence in the electricity system was responsible for this incident.
