Off-duty police officer shot
Srinagar: In another incident of targeted attack, unidentified terrorists opened fire on and injured an off-duty policeman in Bemina area of Srinagar on Saturday evening.
Reports said terrorists armed with pistols fired at a policeman, identified as Hafiz Ahmed of Hamdania Colony, Mathiya Bund, Bemina, leaving him in a pool of blood.
The injured policeman was immediately taken to the hospital and his condition is said to be critical. Police and paramilitary forces reached the spot to arrest the attackers.
Earlier, in the last week of October, Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector Mastoor Ahmed was similarly shot at by terrorists in the Idgah area of the city. The injured officer died on Thursday at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi, where he was shifted for specialized treatment.
The Resistance Front, believed to be an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks, which come after a slight lull in targeted attacks on civilians and off-duty policemen in Kashmir.
