Officials are inspecting various areas for relief and rescue operations after heavy rains

Chennai: After heavy rains in Chennai and neighboring districts on Wednesday, Kolathur and Thiru-ve-ka Nagar areas recorded the highest rainfall of 15 cm.

Till Thursday morning, Ambattur and Anna Nagar received 14 cm rainfall, while Alandur received 13 cm rainfall and Adyar received 12 cm rainfall.

Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected the Integrated Control Center set up at Ripon Building to handle the Northeast Monsoon. He had asked officials and elected representatives to visit their areas and carry out relief work.

Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, PK Shekhar Babu inspected the SWD disposal point at Elephant Gate police station in Kalyanapuram along with the Mayor, R Priya.

He said Ottery Canal, Link Canal, Captain Cotton Canal, Cooum Canal, Kodungaiyur Canal and other canals have been desilted and water is flowing in them.

“Perambur and Saidapet subways were closed for a short time, and now all subways up to Rangarajapuram subway are open for traffic. People who have been rescued from low-lying areas will be provided food and shelter. Traffic Police “Crews have been deployed to avoid traffic jams and we are prepared to deal with the monsoon season.”

Mayor Priya said that due to the overflow of Mambalam canal, areas of T Nagar have been flooded. “The area received 12 cm rainfall. Corporation staff worked all night to drain the water. Now water is coming into the Mambalam canal also. We are paying attention to all the complaints of the public area-wise and solving the problems. It’s not like that.” The major complaint is the mixing of rainwater and sewage water.”

Dr J Radhakrishnan, Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation, inspected the flow of water in the Mambalam Canal. He also inspected the drainage works on Nair Street and Tirumalai Road. He said the city received unprecedented rainfall for a short period of three hours and there was flood problem only in selected areas.

“Except selected areas, water is completely receding at most places. The Chief Minister is monitoring the situation. We have deployed 15 IAS officers across the city. The water is receding rapidly. Korattur, Ambattur and Anna Nagar In some parts, we faced challenges but it has been rectified. We have not seen a challenge like flood so far, but all the equipment is in place in case such a situation arises. There are 16000 personnel, 491 motors and additional 150 tractor-drawn motors. are also deployed,” he said.

Health Minister Ma Subramaniam also inspected several flood areas in Saidapet constituency. He said that there has been no large-scale water logging and the rain water has gone away within an hour or two. He inspected Thiruvalluvar Garden, Subramaniam Road, Jayaram Street, Kothavalachavady Street and other areas where rain water always accumulates.
