On getting Indian citizenship, Akshay said, ‘Heart and citizenship are both Indian’
New Delhi (IANS). Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has finally got Indian citizenship. Akshay Kumar showed off his official documents of Indian citizenship on social media on the occasion of Independence Day.
On social media, Akshay shared a picture of himself holding the official document of Indian citizenship in his hand. The photograph shows a red colored folder with the words ‘Government of India Ministry of Home Affairs, Certificate of Citizenship’ printed on it.
His name Akshay Hariom Bhatia, his father and mother’s name are also shown in this certificate. It also has the name of his wife and actress Twinkle Khanna. The place of birth is said to be Delhi. His previous nationality is of Canada.
Akshay captioned the post, “Heart and citizenship, both Hindustani. Happy Independence Day, Jai Hind.”
Akshay got Canadian citizenship during the 2011 Canadian federal election. The actor has been awarded a doctorate degree by the University of Windsor. In a 2010 interview with The Economist, he claimed that he held “dual citizenship”. In December 2019, he said that he has applied for an Indian passport and plans to give up his Canadian citizenship.
The news has taken the internet by storm and fans are showering love on Akshay’s announcement. The fan wrote, “Bhai ne Indian citizenship dikha di, sabki bolti ab bandh, bold aur capital me Indian likhenge ab, congratulation ho Akki sir, aap Hindustan ke dilon mein dhadakte hain, yeh kaagaz to sirf mohar hai, Hindustani aap behiye Jai Hind, congratulations Akshay ji, finally you have stopped speaking of haters.”
Akshay was recently seen in ‘OMG 2’. He also has ‘The Great Indian Rescue’, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, ‘Hera Pheri 3’ and ‘Soorarai Pottru’ in the pipeline.
