Opposition Stages Overnight Protest Against Passage of G Ram G Bill in Parliament

New Delhi: The opposition parties protested against the Parliament’s passage of the bill to change the name of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to VG-G Ram Ji. MPs staged a dharna on the Parliament premises throughout the night on Thursday. The protest continued for 12 hours. (Opposition Sits On Overnight Protest) The Vikasit Bharat Guarantee Rozgar, Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VG-G Ram Ji) bill was passed by Parliament on Thursday amid protests by the opposition. It was approved in the Rajya Sabha after midnight.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties are angry over the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the current MGNREGA scheme. Opposition MPs staged a 12-hour dharna on the Parliament premises on Thursday night. They alleged that the new bill is against farmers and the rural poor. They said that they will hold protests across the country against the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
