OTS scheme implemented in Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation; ₹220 crore in interest on three lakh properties to be waived.

Ghaziabad. There is welcome news for the hundreds of thousands of property taxpayers within the Municipal Corporation area. The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has implemented a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. Under this scheme, the interest accrued on outstanding taxes for approximately three lakh (300,000) properties in the city will be waived. It is estimated that this scheme will eliminate an interest burden totaling around ₹220 crore.
This initiative by the Municipal Corporation will benefit ordinary taxpayers as well as Central and State government offices, as the scheme also covers outstanding interest on properties owned by government departments. The Corporation’s objective is to enable as many people as possible to pay their pending property taxes and to resolve long-standing arrears.
According to Municipal Corporation officials, the OTS scheme offers taxpayers an easy opportunity to clear their outstanding dues. Many property owners had been unable to pay taxes for years, leading to the accumulation of substantial interest alongside the principal tax amount. The interest waiver is expected to provide significant relief to such individuals.
To avail themselves of the scheme, taxpayers must register through the Municipal Corporation’s designated process. Currently, work is underway to update the Corporation’s software to incorporate the scheme. Once the software update is complete, property taxpayers will be able to register for the OTS scheme online or via the prescribed procedure.
The Municipal Corporation administration states that a technical system is being developed to ensure the scheme is simple and transparent. Following the software update, taxpayers will be able to view their property details, ascertain the outstanding amount, and complete the payment process under the scheme.
There are a large number of properties in the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation area with long-standing house tax or property tax arrears. In many instances, the accrued interest had far exceeded the principal tax amount. In light of this, the Municipal Corporation has launched the One-Time Settlement scheme.
Officials believe that while the scheme will provide financial relief to the general public, it will also boost the Municipal Corporation’s revenue. Recovering long-pending taxes will make additional funds available to the Corporation for development projects. Small traders, landlords, and other property owners will benefit from the interest waiver offered under the OTS (One-Time Settlement) scheme. The Municipal Corporation aims to encourage the maximum number of taxpayers to participate in the scheme and settle their outstanding dues.
The Municipal Corporation administration has urged taxpayers to take full advantage of the scheme and deposit their outstanding taxes within the stipulated timeframe. According to officials, the scheme is valid for a limited period; therefore, eligible individuals should register in a timely manner.
Property tax is a major source of revenue for the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. This revenue funds essential services such as sanitation, road construction, street lighting, and other civic amenities. Consequently, increasing tax collection is crucial for the Municipal Corporation.
With the implementation of this scheme, the Municipal Corporation expects a large number of people to clear their tax arrears. At the same time, taxpayers will gain relief from substantial interest charges. The process is now awaiting the completion of software updates and the commencement of registrations.
