Over 1.90 lakh people affected by floods in Assam
Guwahati (IANS). In Assam, more than 1.90 lakh people in 17 districts have been affected by the floods again due to rains. In which one person has died.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a person died after falling into flood waters in Demo area of Sivasagar district on Monday.
Meanwhile, the flood-affected districts include Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri. At least 522 villages in these districts are battling flood waters and 8,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed.
A total of 1,90,675 people were affected in 17 districts, the ASDMA said. The state administration is running 47 relief camps and 45 relief distribution centers in four districts.
The Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Tezpur and Nematighat, while other major rivers like Subansiri and Dikhau have crossed the danger mark at Badtighat and Sivasagar.
An official said that over 1.30 lakh domestic animals have also been affected due to the floods. Meanwhile, there is news of road damage at 18 places.
