Pakistan leader Asad Umar leaves Imran Khan’s party, quits politics
ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf secretary general Asad Umar, who resigned from his post in May following the May 9 riots, has announced his resignation from the core membership of PTI as well as quitting politics, Dawn News reported on Saturday.
Addressing the Express, the PTI leader said, “After more than a decade in public life, I have decided to leave politics completely. I am resigning from the core membership of PTI.” Omar was a close aide of PTI chairman Imran Khan.
The Pakistan-based news daily reported that Omar’s resignation comes after a long list of politicians who have left PTI after a nationwide crackdown was launched against the party and hundreds of party leaders were arrested following the May 9 riots. Was. Asad Umar announced his resignation at a press conference on 24 May, condemning the events of 9 May, but did not indicate joining any other party.
Today, referring to the same press conference, Omar said he had “already publicly stated that I disagree with the policy of confrontation with state institutions”, Dawn News reported. “Such a policy has led to serious conflict with state institutions, which is not in the interest of the country,” the former PTI general secretary said.
Dawn News reported that Omar thanked those who had supported him in his public life, especially “the NA-54 team and the voters who elected me twice.” The former finance minister said, “I have tried my best to serve the constituency from where I have been elected. May Allah bless the Pakistani nation.”
