Pakistani woman arrested in India, due to this the investigating officers got confused

Kolkata: Saysta Hanif, the Pakistani woman apprehended at the India-Nepal border in northern West Bengal, along with her minor son Ariyan Mohammad Hanif for unlawfully entering India, has confounded the state’s investigating officers by expressing her struggle with proficiency in the Bengali language.

The arrest took place on Wednesday evening, and currently, the woman is under seven-day police custody, undergoing interrogation by state police officials. Sources within the state police revealed their surprise during the interrogation, noting her remarkable fluency and accurate pronunciation of Bengali, closely resembling that of an educated Bengali individual.

The arrested woman has claimed that her original name is Gauri De. Born in Assam, her family later relocated to North 24 Parganas district. Against her family’s wishes, she got married in that district. According to her statement to the police, she initially moved to Delhi with her husband, followed by journeys to Karachi in Pakistan and then Dubai.

Regarding her undocumented entry into India without a visa, she informed the police that she had a sister residing in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal whom she hadn’t seen in years. Reportedly, she had applied for an Indian visa, which was rejected, leading her to decide to enter India via Nepal. She claimed that her longing to reunite with her sister compelled her to cross the border illegally.

In the midst of this, her 11-year-old son has been placed in a juvenile home by a trial court in Darjeeling district.
