Palaru Farmers Association demands implementation of complete crop loan waiver scheme

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Palaru Protection Farmers Association has filed an application in Tirupattur District Collector Office demanding complete waiver of crop loans of farmers. Association officials say that farmers take loans through cooperative societies for agriculture, but due to continuously increasing costs and input prices, they are not able to repay their loans on time.

It was told in the application that the prices of seeds, fertilizers and other essential materials used in farming keep increasing every year. Due to this, small and marginal farmers are not able to earn the expected profits and many farmers are becoming victims of incidents like suicide under this pressure.

The association also said that the election promises had assured complete waiver of all cooperative society loans for small and marginal farmers and 50 per cent waiver of loans for large farmers. But recently this scheme has been amended. Now the government will waive off loans up to Rs 50,000 only for small and marginal farmers and each loan will be waived off separately.

Officials of Palaru Protection Farmers Association said that this revised scheme will not provide adequate relief to the farmers. He believes that the decision to waive only limited amount of loans and settle each loan separately will not solve the real problems of the farmers. Farmers are facing financial pressure amid rising crop costs and prices, which will be fully resolved only when loans are completely waived off.

The association has appealed to the district administration to take the problems of the farmers seriously and implement the scheme as per the election promises. He has warned that if the loan waiver process is not improved, farmer organizations may be forced to carry out major agitations in the coming days.

Agricultural experts say that crop loan waiver is an important step for the economic security of small and marginal farmers. If the scheme provides only partial relief, it may increase the distress of farmers and they may have to face more financial problems due to debt pressure.

Government officials have also indicated that the loan waiver scheme is being reconsidered and suggestions from farmer organizations will be taken into consideration. Despite this, there is still concern and dissatisfaction among the farmers.

This incident makes it clear that it is necessary to implement the process of economic security and debt-free implementation of small and marginal farmers in a timely and effective manner. Farmer organizations demand that the scheme should be fully implemented as soon as possible so that there is stability in the agricultural sector and farmers remain financially secure.
